Hump Day Hottie: Anya Taylor Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy is an Argentine-British actress known for her striking screen presence, distinctive voice, and ability to move effortlessly between independent films, prestige dramas, horror and major Hollywood productions. Born April 16, 1996, in Miami, Florida, she spent much of her childhood in Argentina before her family moved to London.

Taylor-Joy broke through with her performance as Thomasin in the 2015 horror film The Witch. Her unsettling and acclaimed performance immediately established her as one of the most promising young actresses of her generation. She followed it with roles in films including Split, Glass, Thoroughbreds, Emma. and Last Night in Soho.

Her biggest breakthrough came with Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit in 2020. Playing chess prodigy Beth Harmon, Taylor-Joy earned widespread acclaim and won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series. The enormous popularity of the series turned her into an international star.

Taylor-Joy has since expanded into major franchise productions, including The Northman, Amsterdam, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, in which she took over the title role from Charlize Theron’s earlier portrayal of Furiosa.

Known for choosing distinctive and often unconventional roles, Taylor-Joy has quickly established herself as one of the most recognizable actresses of her generation.
